[CLOSED] Ju Shin Jung East – Unlimited Korean BBQ

Ju Shin Jung East ('JSJE”) has been our Korean dining destination in the East Coast Park Singapore. It started more than four years ago, before Korean cuisine become a hype in Singapore.

It seems there is an affinity between us and this place, for just a few simple reasons, the food is great, easy to get a seat and very open environment with high ceiling. Located on the second floor of Burger King in East Coast park, this restaurant has a similar setting to a dining hall. You will be glad that they have a high ceiling, it will reduce the chance smelling like BBQ beef or pork when you step out of the restaurant. They also have some private room if you want more privacy or hold a private dinner.

Dining Hall

This time around we went there for Unlimited BBQ, available from Monday – Thursday, $35++ for Adult and $19++ for children (0.9-1.2m). You can choose from Pork Collar, Pork Belly, Marinated pork & Marinated chicken for the meat selection. Together with this Unlimited BBQ, each one of the diners can choose one of soup selection: Kimchi soup with pork, soyabean soup, tofu soup with seafood, cold soup noodle, spicy dried cold noodle and seafood noodle.

As Little Devil ('LD') and I have other appointment afterwards, we decided to ask the service staff to do the BBQ-ing for us.

The thing about JSJE is they are not 'stingy' about their bachan (side dish). You'll get the spinach, kimchi, summer salad, salads with dressing, tofu, mash potatoes, marinated radish, seaweed soup, pickled onions, fresh vegetables, garlic and chilli to wrap the BBQ meat. All the side dish are home made, fresh and you can have as much as you want; It will be replenish as soon as you are finished.

The pork belly here is the thick version. It is nicely done with good charred on the meat, while the texture remain juicy and succulent. The same can be said for the pork collar. The BBQ chicken is well marinated, it is BBQ to perfection. Slightly crispy charred on the outside, but succulent on the inside.

For unlimited BBQ, JSJE has a promotion of 50% discount on the beef option. We decided to order Wagyu beef for $29.50 discounted from $59. The beef was cooked to medium, it is tender and juicy, however does not reach the stage where it melts in your mouth. A bit disappointing, I expect the Wagyu is of higher grade and the restaurant should have more experienced in BBQing the meat. Luckily we are only paying half price.

As I don't fancy kimchi or spicy soup, LD ordered a beef soup for me. The broth of the soup is robust and well seasoned. The beef has been cooked for a long period until it is tender and fell of the bone. It is very common that kids in Korea to drink beef soup as it provide extra nutrition for them.

To end the meal, they will serve you the heart shape watermelon and cold ginger cinnamon sweet tea.

Service staff in the restaurant is good, friendly and capable. You can see from the way they bbq our meat. However, I can't say the same about the receptionist they posted on the 1st floor. As it is located on the 2nd floor, from the main entrance you will only see stairs to climb up. However, if you have a problem with the stairs like my Mother-in-law, there is a lift to your right, after the Burger King. The reception downstairs is very inattentive and won't bother telling you about the lift, so you kind of need to probe them further for more information.

Overall, we find JSJE consistently provide good quality Korean food. For price, it might be slightly on the high side, however you are getting what you pay for. Service level can be improved, especially on the reception side. If you are nearby during lunch hour, JSJE provide a good value set lunch menu. Cheers!!
