Days leading to Valentine's Day we will normally be bombarded with advertisements of this special day. Gifts, romantic candlelight dinner or even weekend romantic getaway for that special one. One of the ads that I remember most was by an Insurance company a few years back, “Show your love one you care, give them the coverage they need on this Valentine's Day”. All these messages are actually a good reminder for us to do some things that we can illustrate our appreciation for the special one in your life.

This year, International Valentine's Day fall on the same day as the Chinese Valentine's Day (Yuan Xiao Jie). What a rare occasion and the next one will be 19 years later. On my FB page today, I've seen my friends receiving bouquets of flowers from their beloved one. I personally can't remember when did the last time I send flowers to “My Little Devil” on this special day. I personally will not relent and pay exorbitant price for a bouquet of flower which normally cost only half on any other given day. Call me ‘stingy’, but I'll just send it to her during the other special occasion such as Birthday or on our wedding anniversary.

Looking beyond the glamour of gifts, flowers or special dinner, what is actually the real Valentine's Day. I personally feel that Valentine's day suppose to remind you to show someone how much you love and care about them. But why do you need to wait for today. If you love and care about someone, you should show it those people everyday or at every opportunity possible.

From a friend of ours, known as 'the quiet one' I learn something important in everyday life. Although he can do a lot of silly things and annoy the heck out of his other half. He always told us that everyday he wakes up, he always thanked God for this beautiful day and for the gift of the beautiful creature ('his wife') that he has been married to for more than 30 years. It just totally melts your heart.

This week, LD's BFF lost her dad after a short period of battle with cancer. The family only found out that when he lost his sight a few days after Christmas, and I personally don't think that from that point he was every fully lucid to grasp what's going on. We last saw him before CNY and although we knew that this day will come, we never expected to be so early. When something like this happens, it makes us take a step back and reflect of what is important in life. Have we done enough to show those that we care about how much we love and appreciate them?

Therefore, On Valentine's Day or weekend, I just hope that everyone always remember to show those important people in your life how much you care about them and how much you appreciate them in your life. Happy Valentine's Day!!! God's Bless.
