meal is back in town. The collaboration between HungryGoWhere and
American Express brought us $30++ deals in 30 days. But not to worry,
if you do not have Amex card, the price will be $35++. Reservations
need to be made online through HungryGoWhere.
Sankai
Japanese Restaurant is located at Liang Seah Street, or more popular
known as steamboat lane, as most of the restaurants here are known
for their steamboats. Browsing through the menu available online, we
realise Sankai offered one of the most complete meal.

reservation online and we received email confirmation shortly after.
Spicy jelly fish |
We
started with Spicy jelly fish and Salmon and yellow tail sashimi. A
good start for the jelly fish, the spiciness is very mild, more to
open up your appetite. The sashimi are fresh and the cutting is thick
and solid.

Cucumber
salad, Japanese egg omelette and grilled salmon cheek with salt. The
cucumber salad come in spicy pickled form. It is very spicy, has a
closer taste to Singapore Ahcar, rather than Japanese version. Egg is
sweet and solid, nicely done. The salmon cheek is fresh and moist,
grilled to perfection. The best dish for the night for me.

Grilled
beef with teriyaki sauce. Grilled to medium rare and bask with
teriyaki sauce. The beef portion is very good, tender and succulent.
For non-beef eater, they provide chicken teriyaki as replacement. We
find the teriyaki goes well rice, so we ask the Miso soup, rice and
pickles to be brought up first.

Prawn, eggplant and pumpkin tempura are nicely executed. The batter are crispy, light and thin. Seal the juice of the prawn, pumpkin and eggplant nicely. For sushi, Salmon, crabmeat aburi maki are lightly torched, and it just melts in your mouth. However, QC noted that the rice used in the sushi and the served in the meal not round and fluffy.

The final protein dish is Braised pork belly with sake & soya sauce. The pork belly is very tender and flavourful. However, the braising gravy are very bold in sweetness and saltiness. I was lucky that my pork belly has minimum fats, however LD's one has a very thick fats in between.

Dessert -
Japanese ice cream. This time it is red bean ice cream with red
beans. It is creamy and sweet.

The
restaurant is simply decorated in Japanese there. There is one
private room, and during that night it was occupied by a group of
Japanese. Service is very good. We noticed that the rice used has a
more long grain compare to pearl version and we ask the lady boss
about this. She look into this and even show us the uncooked grain
and assured us they only used American Koshuka Pearl Rice. However,
she also agreed that the rice not as round and pearly as it should be
and and she will give this feedback to their supplier.
