Escape Restaurant & Lounge – A Good Food Spread at One Farrer [MEDIA INVITE]

One Farrer Hotel & Spa - Entrance

Escape Restaurant & Lounge ('Escape') is the main restaurant for One Farrer Hotel & Spa. It is open 24 hours daily to satisfy the hungry pangs of guests as well as walk in customers. In Escape you can savour the delight of local cuisine as well as International selection as well.

The Table Setting

Ala Carte menu is available for the whole day, while quality Food Spread is available for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Cold Seafood & Live Station Combo

The first station that catch my attention is the Cold Seafood & Live Station Combo, as it is located at the beginning of the food area. The cold seafood selection consist of oysters, prawns, mussels, yabbies, and crabs. They are fresh, although it is not the cream of the crop. The oysters is small in size, but juicy and plum. While the prawns were firm, yet soft at the same time. I like the nice crunch when you bit into it.

Cold Seafood Selection

Oysters

The unique part about this station is that you can choose the same seafood (of course not the oysters) to be cooked as well, with the choice of sauce such as salted egg, chilli crab or black pepper. We choose the salted egg sauce, which was good enough to satisfy any salted egg cravings that you might have.

Sashimi section consist of salmon, tuna, octopus, mackerel and prawns (amaebi). All of the cuts are fresh, with salmon, prawns and mackerel got my pick. The octopus was very chewy and made you jaw exercise, while the tuna was forgettable. Although there are sushi available, I give it a miss so I can have more space to try other food.

Sashimi Selection

Roast for the night is Ribeye with yorkshire pudding. I got a solid cut, where it has a gorgeous pink in the middle. The ribeye is meaty and succulent with a nice mustard seasoning on the crust. Due to its size, we were served mini cut of Yorkshire pudding instead of the whole piece. It has a subtle eggy taste to it, and goes will with the robust beef jus.

The Asian stew and Indian food is a must try here. The naan is soft, fluffy with a good level of chewiness to it. It definitely bodes will the fish curry and lamb gulai. The tandoori chicken is succulent and well marinated. Best of all is the lot is braised beef brisket with tendon. It just melts in your mouth. How I wish that they have Cantonese egg noodle to go with it.

Surprisingly, the Asian dim sum section provided a good selection. The Char Siew Bao is fluffy with a nice sweet pork fillings to it. The same can be said about the Char Siew Puff. Unfortunately I miss out on the Siew Mai, it was probably good because the whole tray just disappear. My favourite was the deep fried prawn in crispy noodle. The combination of crispy noodle and juicy prawn just hit the spot for me.

For those who like Cantonese Roast, the version here is palatable but forgettable. The Bak Kut Teh is the herbal version, though I suggest you just have the soup and forget about the meat.

For the sweet ending, the durian pengat with chendol is a must try here. You can have the durian pengat on its own, or create your own chendol concoction like what I did. When you mix it, it taste more creamy due to the coconut milk and gula melaka but with different layer flavour due to the chendol. Yum Yum.

My picks for the cakes are the Strawberry shortcake, Passion Butter Cake and Basil Butter cake. The combination of cream and strawberries between the cake is just so inviting, you just can't say no. Meanwhile the butter cake is fluffy and fragrant, which just snug nicely with your coffee or tea.

Assorted Cake & Desserts

The décor of Escape is modern, practical yet classy. When you enter the restaurant, you will first see the oval shape bar, followed by the dining area then the interactive Food Spread area. You will notice that the walkway between the centre and sides Food Spread area is narrow, so it is easy to bump to each other. The central part of the Food Spread area also double up as live cooking stations, while the sides are reserved for steamer and fridges. They sure know how to maximise the space here.

Overall, Escape offer a good Food Spread experience. Considering the space available, they really serve a wide range of selections. Cheers!!
