INDOCAFE The White House – HGW GSS Food Trail Part 1 [Media Invite]

INDOCAFE - The White House

INDOCAFE – the white house is a holding place for modern Peranakan cuisine, fine coffee appreciation and cultural performing art. The food here is influenced by Indo-Peranakan culture, Portugese, Dutch, British, Malay, Indonesian and Chinese in a kind of like a plate of rojak.

Part of the dining area

From now until 14 August 2016, HungryGoWhere and INDOCAFE are jointly promoting the HGW GSS dining experience, focusing on Penang Ala Carte Buffet.

Appetizer

This buffet consist of 20 (twenty) items to choose from, ranging from mini bites to desserts. The highlights of these buffet for LD and I are:

Otak Klasik, this modern interpretation of Otah. The one served here is steamed 'Chawanmushi' egg custard with Barramundi fish fillet. The custard has a soft, smooth and velvety texture, followed with aromatic spices blend with flaky fish. There is a touch of heat in this dish, but easily acceptable to every palate.

Otak Klasik

Kueh Pie Tee. This bite size pastry cups has been food lover favourites. The deep fried pastry cups are filled with turnips, crab meat, cuttlefish and shrimps. Garlic chilli is available for someone who likes it hot. Combination of crispy pastry cup with sweet turnip and crab meat is just irresistible.

Kueh Pie Tee

Sotong Panggang. a.k.a BBQ squid. A perfectly BBQ squid. It is tender yet springy, with a touch of sweetness from the kecap manis together with homemade sambal. Instead of full blown spiciness, we tasted a more subtle and different layers of flavours in the sambal.

Sotong Pangang

Iced Chendol. This traditional Peranakan desserts definitely leave you with a pleasant memories afterwards. The ingredients are crunchy red bean with springy chendol was nicely complemented with the rich coconut milk and sweet palm sugar. This is our final and most memorable dish of the night, a must try here!!
