Quartier @ Serangoon Garden |
Quartier is a French grocery store in Singapore, stocking fundamental food products that all French households will normally have in their kitchen. The idea of one-stop shop that sells French necessities at reasonable price was conceived by six friends living in Singapore. This was after the closure of Carrefour Singapore, as they find it almost impossible to get French products at reasonable price.
In April 2013, Quartier open its first shop in the heart of Serangoon Gardens, nearby the French school. Although it was targeted to supply the French community in Singapore, Quartier is OPEN to GENERAL PUBLIC. Quartier also offer online ordering, home delivery service and store pick-up services as well. Check out my mini tour at Quartier below.
While you can find almost all the basic necessities imported directly from French at the Quartier, now you can also take home a French Chef with you. All right, not exactly a French Chef, instead it is ready French Traditional Dishes prepared by French Chef using high quality ingredients exclusively for Quartier. This is known as Quartier Selection. The Quartier Selection will include Fresh Soups, Pâté & Rillettes, and Frozen Main Dishes.

Duck Rillettes |
You can pick up Biscottes in the shop as well. This ready made crispy toasted bread is a perfect base to go with your rillettes.
The Frozen Main Dishes that we sample were Boeuf Bourguignon / Beef stew cooked in red wine ($22.90) and Couscous / Chicken & Lamb with vegetable Broth ($22.90). Each of the Quartier Selection for the main range is enough for 2 person. All you need to do is just pop it the oven for 20 to 30 minutes at 180ºC to heat up the meal.
Frozen Main Dish |
Boeuf Bourguignon turns out to be perfect. The meat is so tender, it just melts in your mouth. The carrot, potato and celery absorbs the essence of the beef and the red wine nicely. It will be nice if you have bread to go soak up the delicious gravy.
Boeuf Bourguignon - half pack (Bread and salad not included) |
Portion wise, the Couscous will look slightly bigger. It use two chicken legs, cooked with spicy lamb sausage (mergez), chickpeas and vegetable stock. The chicken is tender and succulent, while the sausage and vegetable broth provided the robust flavour to the chicken.
Couscous - the whole pack |
In short, both of the dishes that we tasted has the same quality when we are dining in a French Bistro / restaurant. Currently there are 6 types of soups, 8 types of Frozen main dishes and 5 types of Pâté & Rillettes available.
For cheese collection, one of the cheese that we sample is Bons Meyannais Petit Camembert. Apparently this is one of the oldest and most recognise brand from French, established in 1912. For 150 gram round pack, it only cost $8.90. This is comparable or even cheaper than the cheese sold in the finer supermarket here.

More exotic cheese option |
The verdict, Quartier is definitely a must visit place especially if you are looking for daily necessity products from French. The price is very reasonable and affordable. The Quartier Selections should also be something that you must have in your fridge. It really feels like you have a French Chef cooking at your kitchen. A very good option if you feel like some traditional French dishes without stepping out from home. Cheers!
Thank you very much to Quartier for introducing this tasty selection.
