[CLOSED] Outback Steakhouse – The Great Aussie Eat [MEDIA INVITE]

Outback Steakhouse @ Millenia Walk

Outback Steakhouse is an Australian Steakhouse conceptualise by an American company. Truth to be told, the people behind it done a great job, to make it so originally Aussie I got fooled all these years.

Recently, Outback Steakhouse ('Outback') introduced The Great Aussie Eats menu, inspired by the popular combination in Australia. So we are here to give it a try.

The Bar

Starter was Tomato and Mozzarella Bruschetta ($14.90). The crispy baguette, topped with mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, balsamic vinegar and green. Simple, refreshing and delicious. Don't be fooled by the block cut of the mozzarella that looks like parmesan, it was soft and easy on the palate. Combined with sweet acidity from the balsamic vinegar and cherry tomato, it will really kick start your appetite.

There are two choices of main meal Crab Topped Sirloin ($37.90) and Sweet Chili Chicken and Shrimp ($23.90). The Crab on top of Sirloin is the Outback version of ever popular Surf and Turf in Australia. 6oz of perfectly grilled steak with de-shell steamed crab meat. Steak is juicy, succulent with a nice charred on the exterior. While the crab is smooth and brainy waiting to be dipped into the butter sauce. We had it with steamed vegetables and baked potatoes. Both sides are pretty good.

Sweet Chili Chicken and Shrimp is the other main menu option. Honestly, LD and I more of a Moo Moo person, so we will not order this normally. However, we must agree that the chicken is tender and succulent, well coated in the sweet chilli sauce. The shrimp is very decent in size, with firm and springy texture. A solid dish indeed.

Dessert for The Great Aussie Eat Menu is a Key Lime Pie ($6.90). A solid and refreshing creamy pie. The taste of the lime is very subtle and the curd is too sweet as well. The base crumbs is light and dissipate in your mouth nicely. Good finish to the meal.

The recommended mocktail for the meal is Barrier Reef Punch ($5.90). A combination of orange, pineapple and mango juices blended with puréed strawberries. Sweet and with little twang from the pineapple. Of course if you prefer something stronger you can try their Gold Coast 'Rita – in house Margarita ($12.90) or their Buy 1 get 1 free Classic Mojito ($12.90)

Of course, we can't leave Outback without trying their speciality. Outback Steakhouse signature Honey Wheat Bushman Bread. This signature bread is complimentary, served after placing your ordering. It has a crisp crust, a touch of sweetness with a hint of choco. Served with their signature mix of their butter, it was a good Yummy!!

Typhoon Bloom ($14.90), Outback's signature onion rings. A very huge well coated and seasoned fresh onion rings, stacked and topped with spicy signature sauce. Final presentation looks like a volcano. The trick is to dismantle it one piece at a time without collapsing the volcano. It's delicious and fun at the same time.

Chargrilled Ribeye ($39.90). One of the signature steak in Outback. 10oz of ribeye chargrilled over an open flame to medium rare. Juicy, meaty and succulent like how a traditional steak should be. It come with pepper sauce, but I think the steak is good enough without any sauce. Maybe should try it the Aussie way, with a dash of lemon. The corn is a bit mushy for my liking but the fried sweet potato on the side provided a great pairing for the steak. A must try dish here.

The décor of the restaurant is a combination of western tavern with Australian touch. The solid wood theme are feature prominently here. Make you feel that you are dining in the countryside.

The Decor & Table Setting

The verdict, the Great Aussie Menu is definitely worth to try. Our picks are the bruschetta and the Crab Topped Sirloin. So if you are around Suntec area, check out Outback Steakhouse. Cheers!!
