Melt Café – Taste of Japan [MEDIA INVITE]

Melt Café, Mandarin Oriental Singapore

Melt Café, the main dining destination of Mandarin Oriental Singapore is having a Japanese Food Fair promotion. Known for its highlights in Seafood and other culinary extravagance, the dining experience here will featured by Japanese centric menu from 26 November to 4 December 2016.

Salmon & Smoked Salmon

The highlights of the Taste of Japan are:

Sashimi. I had salmon, tuna, yellowtail, octopus with a touch of salmon roe. All the sashimi are fresh, generous in the size of the cuts and enjoyable with the special of soy sauce. There is also salmon belly, which is a must have for Japanese food lover.

Sashimi Moriawase

Sushi. It comes in the normal Nigiri Sushi and Aburi Nigiri Sushi. I tried their Uni Sushi, Aburi Nigiri Salmon, Aburi Nigiri Tuna and Salmon Roe Sushi. The aburi sushi has a subtle charred flavour, which arose the aroma of the fish and made the fish easily dissipate in your mouth. My personal favourite is the uni sushi. It was moist, well grilled and fluffy. The Uni sushi is so good, I can help it and had more than one.

Regular Nigiri Sushi

Ebi Fry Handroll. A combination of crispy and crunchy ingredients wrapped in sushi rice is definitely yummy.

Japanese Java Curry. It is available in chicken or pork. I choose pork. The pork cutlet is thinly breaded and fried to perfection. Served on bed of rice, with perfectly cooked soft boil egg and Japanese Java Curry. Unlike the regular Japanese curry, the Java curry has a thicker texture. It is creamy with a solid spice kick in it. Definitely a comforting curry rice. I only wish the pork cutlet they use got more fats, instead of lean version.

Tonkatsu Japanese Java Curry

Desserts. The green yuzu opera cake is a must try. It has a refreshing tanginess from the yuzu, combine with the depth green tea flavour. Definitely a good way to end the email.

Also to look out for is their Japanese Shabu Shabu. Thin sliced beef cooked in soy flavoured broth served with Furikake Spice Japanese Rice. We were not able to taste it because of Thanksgiving event in Melt in that evening.

Some Seafood Selections

On top of the Japanese cuisine available, the regular line up remain available such as their seafood selection, roast selection, Indian and International Cuisine and best of all their desserts. The 'Melt' Chocolate cake is not to be missed plus my comfort desserts bread and butter pudding and apple crumble.

Indian Cuisine

The 'Melt' Chocolate Cake

I wish I had more space to try out other cuisine, however the carbo from the sushi rice really stopped me from sampling other dishes. Not to worry, I am sure I will be back some other time. Overall, it was a good selection and Melt's never seems to fail in meeting my standard with their quality of food.
