[CLOSED} Burp Kitchen & Bar – Gastropub & Live EPL [MEDIA INVITE]

Burp Kitchen & Bar @ Tanjong Katong

Burp Kitchen & Bar is the second outlet of Burp umbrella brand. I visited their first outlet in Bedok Reservoir and I still like for the wholesome meal that are served there. You can check out the review of the Bedok Reservoir outlet here.

For the Tanjong Katong outlet, the team up the ante on the entertainment factor here. Football lovers (like me), they are showing live EPL matches on wide projector. You can check out the Live matches they are showing on the FB page.

The view of the Bar and Projector screen

The décor of the place is minimalist with industrial influence. Dark wooden colour is the main theme here, including the tables, chairs and bar. Lighting is old style industrial bulbs, which really create the whole pub environment, however a pain in the butt to take photos in.

The Decor

To say the food here as bar bites is definitely an understatement. A lot of energy is put in to create the menu here, especially their pork dishes. Pork Carnitas Taco ($12) is definitely deserve some attention from your palate. The tender, succulent BBQ pulled pork, with crunchy apple slaw and fresh salsa fresca filled the tacos deliver the wholesome taco experience. A drizzle of lemon zest will offset any overwhelming flavour of too much meat. A must try for pork lovers.

Pork Carnitas Taco

The Hog Burger ($14). A solid pork patty topped with bacon and berry jam. We like the combination of sweet and salty here. The pork patty is meaty and juicy, the bacon is crispy while the jam and caramelized onions just bind the burger together. The cajun fries is slightly crisp and soft internally. A sold Oink Oink Burger.

One of the best dish for the night is Burp Spam Fries ($12). Cut in shoe string fries size with slight sprinkle of parmesan cheese, it is cooked perfectly. It is crispy, salty and addictive. The first dish that was totally clean out by us. Spamgasm!! There is lime mayo on the side, but we like ours spam fries naked.

While the Pork Carnitas is a solid taco, we like the Grilled Shrimps Taco ($12) more. The shrimps are well grilled, smokey and crunchy. The natural seafood sweetness and the charred flavoured works better with crunchy apple slaw. The garlic cilantro lime mayo just enhanced the taste further. It feels lighter compare to meaty pork version, however it layer of flavours are just better.

Grilled Shrimps Taco

Honey Lime Paprika Wings ($12). Wings are basically a must have dish for gastropub. Huge size chicken wings are well-fried, resulting in crispy exterior and juicy succulent interior. The honey lime glazed well-coated the chicken, however the sweet seems to overpower the citrusy flavour. Good for those who like their wings sweet.

Honey Lime Paprika Wings

Tom Yum Chicken Mushroom pasta ($14) is one of the fusion dish here. To make it blend with the pasta, the tom yum chicken is the creamy version. The linguine was a bit pass al-dente, but the creamy tom yum sauce well infused in the pasta and chicken. It is not something that we expected, and we will give this a miss next time.

Tom Yum Chicken Mushroom pasta

Beef Chilli Totchos ($12). Well-fried potato nuggets topped with homemade beef chilli. The beef chilli version here is slightly lighter in colour. The mini hash brown is crispy and fluffy, coated with beef chilli. As a beef chilli fan, I like this dish. However I find the chilli can better if the gravy has more punch in it, like adding more tomatoes, kidney beans and cheese.

Beef Chilli Totchos

Triple Cheese Burger ($15). The plating of this burger is interesting indeed. Beef patty loaded with triple melted cheese, bacon in between the black charcoal buns. Though the portion is very good, we find the beef patties is under-seasoned and missing the juiciness to make it a good burger.

Triple Cheese Burger

Overall, the dishes in Burp Tanjong Katong really brought back the good memories that I had in their Bedok Reservoir outlet. Their Shrimp Taco, Pork Carnitas Taco, The Hog Burger and Spam Fries definitely suits our palate and a must try dishes here. So if you are looking for a good gastropub or a place to watch EPL and chill out, give Burp Kitchen and Bar a visit. Cheers!!
