[CLOSED] Montana – V60 Chocolate [MEDIA INVITE]

Montana Singapore

Montana recently introduced their new menu with a new Chef helming the kitchen. Previously everyone was talking about their Freak Cake, I personally feel their Coconut Cold Brew Coffee is a more notable mention. Coconut Cold Brew Coffee is still one of their main features in the new menu.

Complementing their Coconut Cold Brew Coffee, Montana added V60 Chocolate ($6.80) to their drink offering. By pouring heated coconut water over ground cacao nibs to extract the intense chocolate flavour infused with the natural sweetness of coconut water. It comes in three flavours, Original, Mint and Smoky Infusion. My personal pick is Mint, as it has a minty refreshing flavour, the opposite to the nutty chocolate flavour.

Our Entrée was Whitebait with Five Spice Seasoning ($11) and Fried Chicken Wings with Garlic Mirin Sauce ($12). The whitebait is crisp and crunchy. The five spice seasoning is mild, making it a pleasant starter, make sure you squeeze the lemon wedge to add some twang to this dish.

Whitebait with Five Spice Seasoning

The chicken wings here looks yummy at the first sight. It has crispy exterior followed with juicy succulent meat inside. Unfortunately, you will soon be running for your drinks as the seasoning is simply just too much.

Fried Chicken Wings with Garlic Mirin Sauce

Cold Crab Truffle Pasta ($21). Chilled al-dente pasta with a generous splurge of truffle oil. The truffle flavour is on the strong side, overshadowing the natural sweetness of the crab. Nothing beats the real truffle, but for that price, it is a reasonable offering.

Cold Crab Truffle Pasta

Spicy Bacon Pasta ($17) – Linguine with sautéed bacon, Bacon bits, Chilli and Ginger paste. From the looks, it looks crazy spicy. If you are a die-hard fan of spicy food, it is something that you must order.

Spicy Bacon Pasta

Truffle Eggs Rosti ($19). This is part of their all-day breakfast item. Poached eggs, parma ham, truffle hollandaise, waffled potato rosti. The rosti is plain on its own, probably without any seasoning. The key is to eat the rosti together with all the ingredients in one bite. You will get your oozing egg yolk and smooth saltiness of the bacon working nicely to create contrasting flavour with the crisp moist rosti.

Truffle Eggs Rosti

Baked Salmon with Poached Egg ($18). This reminds me of the previous dish in the defunct Roosevelt. Nicely cooked Salmon filled, but tasted a bit bland. The shoyu mushrooms and yuzu hollandaise helps to sparkle the dishes, but it was just not enough.

Signature Mac & Cheese Waffle ($15). The best dish of the night. The depth of the flavour in this waffle will make you pause and feel the OMPH. The mac and cheese are blended into the batter of this crispy waffle, topped with melted mozzarella and truffle oil. It is served with jalapeno sauce, but the waffle itself was delicious on its own.

Desserts were Bianco ($13) and Rosso ($13). Rosso consists of Chocolate Brownie, Macerated berries and Irish Whiskey Sauce. It will get a perfect score for the presentation. The brownie is crisp and moist at the same time, while the sauce is definitely packs of Irish Punch. Consider it alcoholic dessert, not for those who don't like whiskey.

Rosso

Bianco consists of Horlicks Cheesecake, Orange Gel and Passion fruit Mousse. The cheesecake is a combination of Horlicks malt with cheese, well balance and not too cheesy. Together with the orange gel and fruit mousse, it is a delightful ending to your meal here. A must-try dessert.

Bianco

Overall, I was glad to be back at Montana. The team creativity really shines in their interpretation of the new dishes. I personally like their Mac & Cheese Waffle and their Bianco. A good place to drop by for your cafe fix, but don't expect the sky. Cheers!!

Thank you very much to Msgingingly and Montana Team for the tasting invitation.
